English Proficiency

All candidates for WUT need to hold a proper certificate to prove their knowledge and skills in the English language – it has to be one of the certificates from the list below.

 

What level of English is required to be admitted for studies?

The required level of proficiency in English is at least B2. The minimum requirements for specific certificates of proficiency in English may be found below.

What if English was the medium of instruction at my high school?

We do not accept the medium of instruction letter issued by a high school. From candidates for Bachelor's degree studies, we require one of the certificates of proficiency in English on B2 level listed below.

Exceptions: 

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva may be used as the confirmation of proficiency in English, but only if your language A was English;

The European Baccalaureate Diploma (EB) – English as L1 or L2.

What if English was medium of instruction at my university?

If have graduated from Bachelor's degree or Master's degree studies and your medium of instruction was exclusively English (all lectures, exams, labs were conducted in English), we may accept the medium of instruction letter or the information in the Diploma Supplement as the confirmation of your proficiency in English.

If only part of your studies (e.g. a year or two) was in English (e.g. during the Erasmus exchange), we cannot accept the medium of instruction letter, and you need to provide us with the certificate of proficiency in English listed below. 

Do you accept any certificates not listed below, e.g. Duolingo?

No, we do not accept the certificates not listed below.

A certificate of completion of a preparatory course for university study, as referred to in Article 60(4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners (e.g. at the English Language Centre of WUT), lasting no less than 9 months, certifying proficiency in English across the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing, at language proficiency levels B2, C1 or C2.
B.SC., M.Sc. degrees University studies done 100% in English as the language of instruction, documented in the supplement/certificate.
